Plum

Popularly called as the stone fruit tree of the genus Prunus, plum is primarily a stone fruit also known as the gage. Plums come in a variety of sizes with yellow, white or red flesh showing variance in skin colors.

Plums contain a high amount of dietary fiber including soluble as well as insoluble fiber. They are high in nutrients, including Vitamin A, C, B6, E, Beta Carotene, Carotenoids, Riboflavin, Niacin, Folate and Pantothenic Acid. The antioxidants contained in plums have been shown to terminate the chain reactions caused by free radical intermediates in the human body. They are extremely beneficial for the treatment of strokes and neuro-degenerative diseases as well. They are also used as a dietary supplement and play a crucial role in preventing diseases such as cancer and coronary heart diseases. Dietary ployphenols contained in them help in cell-to-cell signaling, receptor sensitivity, inflammatory enzyme and gene regulation.

Preparation :

Plums can either be eaten raw or converted into jams, jellies etc. These prunes can also be consumed in powdered form.
